In the Mediterranean region (including North Africa) Trichoferus fasciculatus fasciculatus, described from "Transcaucasia" by Franz Faldermann in 1837 [❖], is a relatively common and a broadly polyphagous species. It develops in Ficus, Sorbus, Rhus, Nerium, Vitis, Paliurus, Spartium, Castanea, Ulmus, Morus, Punica, Rubus, Cytisus, Robinia, Ceratonia, Pistacia, Ziziphus, Coronilla, etc. Larvae feed especially in the wood of dead twigs 1 - 3 cm in diameter, but also in branches and trunks.

Adults in:June - August
Host plant:polyphagous in deciduous trees
Distribution:Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Balearic Islands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Corsica, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Montenegro, Portugal, Romania, Sardinia, Serbia, Sicily, Spain, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Iran, Israel, Turkey


Mounted specimens were collected in Primošten environs (Šibenik-Knin County, Dalmatia, Croatia) on July 23-31, 2012. The living beetle was reared from dead twigs of grapevine (Vitis vinifera) collected in South-West Sardinia, Italy.
