Oberea histrionis, a species known from Central and South-East Europe, has been described from Hungary as Oberea euphorbiae var. histrionis by Maurice Pic in 1917 [❖]. This original but extremely brief Pic 's description fell almost into oblivion and the taxon was again described from South Moravia (Czechia) as Oberea moravica by Jan Kratochvíl in 1989 [✧]. The validity of the species is still under discussion (due to identical bionomy and very similar morphology it is considered by some experts only as a subspecies or even a younger synonym of O. euphorbiae), as is the case with the whole complex of Euphorbia-taxa of the Oberea's subgenus Amaurostoma from Europe and Western Asia (e.g. O. erythrocephala, O. euphorbiae. O. taygetana and their subspecies).

O. histrionis occurs in the area of its distribution relatively very locally, especially in moist localities of floodplains and wetlands. Larval development in the stems of spurges (Euphorbia spp., in Central Europe it prefers E. palustris and E. lucida), especially in their lower, basal parts and roots. The larvae usually feed in the central part below ground level, overwinter in the stems and also pupate there. Life-cycle 1 year. Adults, active from May to July, can be found or swept from the host plants [▽].
