Agapanthia viti, a new Central-European and North/Central Balkan species, is strictly related with A. osmanlis Reiche & Saulcy, 1858. It is easy to distinguish by the denser pubescence on all the upper and lower side. This pubescence is yellowish colored instead ash-colored. The bionomy of this interesting beetle was well described by Sándor Keszthelyi and Dávid Horváth in 2015 [✧].The complicated taxonomic situation in Agapanthia osmanlis species cluster (comprising following taxa: Agapanthia osmanlis, Agapanthia ozdikmeni, Agapanthia viti and Agapanthia naciyae) was solved by Pierpaolo Rapuzzi and Gianfranco Sama in 2012 [❖]. A comprehensive and detailed revision of the entire taxonomically difficult subgenus Smaragdula by our colleague Karel Hodek was published in the summer of 2021 [▽].
Body length: 12 - 15 mm Life cycle: 1 year Adults in: May - June Host plant: Dipsacus Distribution: Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia
The depicted beetles were reared from larvae and pupae found in dead stalks of Dipsacus laciniatus collected in Vitnyéd village environs (N47°35′19″ E16°59′29″; Kapuvár district, Győr-Moson-Sopron county, Hungary) in April 2008/2009 and February 2015.Collected by David Navrátil, Pavel Jelínek and Petr Jelínek
