Turanium losi, for a long time "hidden" species distributed in Middle Asia (Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and probably also in Tajikistan), has been described from Arkit environs (Kyrgyzstan) by Lech Karpiński & al. in 2021 [▽]. This polyphagous species (close to Turanium (Turanium) pilosum (Reitter, 1891)) has long escaped attention, although it is not uncommon in the area of occurrence. Its existence was revealed only by a detailed morphological and also genetic analysis performed by Polish colleagues [▽].
Body length: ♂♂ 10.5 – 14.0 mm / ♀♀ 11.0 – 15.0 mm Life cycle: 2 years Adults in: May - June Host plant: polyphagous in deciduous trees (Prunus, Malus) Distribution: Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan
The depicted beetles were reared from larvae found in Prunus collected 4 km N of Arkit (Аркыт) village (N41°50′10″ E71°57′14″; 1480 m a.s.l., Aksy District, Jalal-Abad region, Kyrgyzstan) in June 2019.Collected by R.Plewa
