Semanotus algiricus, rare and endangered Maghreb species (known from Algeria and Morocco) developing exclusively in wood of Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica), was described originally as Semanotus russicus algirica by Pic in 1905 [▽]. Larvae of this beautiful species develop in freshly dead of fallen cedar branches and trunks. Oviposition in March and April, pupation in early summer. Adults, active from February to April, are crepuscular/nocturnal and can be found on the host trees.

The depicted beetles were collected after dusk on freshly felled Cedrus atlantica in Mischliffen environs (1850-1950 m a.s.l., Middle Atlas Mts., 10 km E Azrou, Ifrane province, Fès-Meknès region, Morocco) on April 12–13, 2024.
