Semanotus algiricus, rare and endangered Maghreb species (known from Algeria and Morocco) developing exclusively in wood of Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica), was described originally as Semanotus russicus algirica by Pic in 1905 [▽].

The depicted beetles were reared from larvae collected in wood of dead Cedrus atlantica found in Azrou environs (Fès-Meknès region, Ifrane province, Morocco) on May 19, 2014.
