Schurmannia sicula, very rare and interesting endemic species to Sicily (Madonie mountain range), was described by Gianfranco Sama in 1979 [❖]. Schurmania develops in maple (Acer), larvae infest dead parts of living trunks and feed in the wood that has contact with the living tissue, also in dead branches. Life cycle is 2 or 3 years, with pupation in spring in the wood.

The depicted beetles were reared from larvae found in Acer sp. in Piano Zucchi (1500 m a.s.l., Madonie Mts., Sicily, Italy).Collected by M. Benelli and P. Rapuzzi
