Saperda (Eusaperda) maculosa, a rare and not often collected species endemic to Azerbaijan and West Iran, has been described from Lenkoran (Azerbaijan) by Edouard Ménétriés in 1832 [❖]. The biology of this beautiful and interesting species is basically the same as that of the closely related
Saperda (Eusaperda) scalaris (Linnaeus, 1758).
Body length: 10 - 18 mm Life cycle: 1 - 2 years Adults in: April - June Host plant: polyphagous in deciduous trees, prefers cherry (Prunus) Distribution: Azerbaijan, Iran
The beetle in the pictures was reared from a praepupa found in a pupal cell built in the sapwood of a dead cherry tree. It was collected in Calus environs (North Iran).Collected by Martin Rejzek
