Purpuricenus zarudnianus, from South-Eastern Iran and Pakistan, resembles the Southern-European taxon Purpuricenus desfontainii, but the pronotum shape and the red-coloured abdominal sternites are typical for the ‘wachanrui’ group. We do not know the host plant, adult beetles have usually been observed on a blossoming Tamarix growing in habitats characterised by a very poor supply of food sources. This rare and little-known species has been described from South-Eastern Iran by Andrej Petrovitsch Semenov Tian-Shanskij in 1903 [✧].
