Purpuricenus interscapillatus sasanus, a subspecies [❖] known from Zagros Mountains in Central-West Iran and distributed also in Eastern Iraq, was originally described by Stanislav Kadlec [✧] as separate species. Purpuricenus interscapillatus sasanus, well characterized for the small body, the long black spot on the middle of elytra and for the largely black shoulders, represents the easternmost subspecies of P. interscapillatus. The beetle oviposits on living terminal twigs of Acer monspessulanum cinerascens. The larva girdles the twig to interrupt flow of sap and develops in the dead part of the twig.
