Pterolophia jugosa, a species of deciduous forests of North-East Asia occuring in Russian Far East, Japan and Korea, has been described
from Japan as Praonetha jugosa by Henry Walter Bates in 1873 [▽]. Larvae of P. jugosa develop in dying/freshly dead branches
of deciduous trees. Young larvae feed subcortically creating longitudinal in sapwood impressed galleries filled with fine frass. The larvae
of later instars enter the heartwood and after the second overwintering bore longitudinal gallery with a pupal cell at its
end with frass filled exit corridor (up to the bark). Life-cycle 2 years, adults can be beaten from the host trees during summer months [✧].
Body length: | 8 - 12 mm |
Life cycle: | 2 years |
Adults in: | June - August |
Host plant: | polyphagous in deciduous trees (e.g. Ulmus, Fagus, Populus, Morus, Castanea, Citrus) |
