This striking species of Callichromatini tribe, sporadically distributed from the Korean peninsula through Northern China and Mongolia to the Eastern part of the Russian Federation, was described by Johann Christian Fabricius as Saperda fasciata as early as 1781 [❖]. The species inhabits forest-steppe habitats and is ecologically associated with wild roses (Rosa maximowicziana, R. ragosa, R. dahurica). The larvae of P. fasciatus develop in viable shoots of rose shrubs usually growing in xerothermic localities. Adults require supplementary feeding and can be found on flowers (Apiaceae, Rosaceae, Compositae, etc.) [✧].
