Pogonocherus ressli, a rare Irano-Turanian species known from North Iran and Azerbaijan (Talysh Mts.), has been described from Nowshahr environs (Iran) by Carolus Holzschuh in 1977 [❖]. Larvae of P. ressli develop in dead/dying twigs and branches of various deciduous trees (Carpinus, Pterocarya, Tilia) [✧].

Body length:4 - 5 mm
Life cycle:1 - 2 years
Adults in:April - August
Host plant:polyphagous in deciduous trees (Carpinus, Pterocarya, Tilia)
Distribution:North Iran, Azerbaijan (Talysh Mts.)


The depicted beetle was reared from larva found in Carpinus twig in Kīnj (كينج‎) village environs (1550-1600 m a.s.l., Kojur District, Nowshahr County, Mazandaran province, Iran) in May 2019.
