Pogonocherus caroli, a rare species developing in dying/freshly dead pine (Pinus spp.) twigs, has been described from Pessac environs (Gironde, SW France) by Étienne Mulsant in 1862. This interesting taxon, originally known only from South-West Europe (France, Spain), was discovered recently in South Sweden and also in Scotland [✧].

The depicted beetles were reared from larvae found in a dead Pinus twigs collected in Grand canyon du Verdon (N43°44′08″ E6°22′14″; 850 m a.s.l., La Palud-sur-Verdon env., Castellane arrondissement, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, Southeastern France) in summer 2018.Collected by David Navrátil
