Pilemia kostali, a rare endemic species to Iran, has been described from Mâzandarân province (Iran) as Phytoecia (Pseudopilemia) kostali by Lukáš Skořepa in 2022 [✩]. Larvae of P. kostali develop in stalks and roots of Stachys byzantina (Lamiaceae). Adults, active in May and June, can be found on the host plants.

The depicted mounted beetles were collected on the host plant in: ♂♀ - Kīnj (كينج) village environs (1550-1600 m a.s.l., Kojur district, Nowshahr county, Mâzandarân province, Iran) on May 20-21, 2017;
