Phytoecia paulusi whas been described by Carolus Holzschuh from Central Lebanon in 1971 [❖]. The species was divided into two subspecies by Gianfranco Sama in 2000 [✧]. The nominate subspecies is endemic to Lebanon and the new one, ssp. bludanica, is distributed in Syria.

Body length:	10 - 12 mm
Life cycle:	1 year
Adults in:	May - June
Host plant:	Cirsium cf. lappaceum M. B.
Distribution:	subspecies endemic to Lebanon

The depicted beetles were collected in Tannourine Cedars Forest Nature Reserve (1750 m a.s.l., Harissa environs, North governorate, North Lebanon) on May 10, 2017.
