Neoplagionotus scalaris, a Mediterranean species known from Balcan peninsula, Italy, North Africa and Turkey, has been described from Peloponnese (Greece) as Clytus scalaris by Auguste Gaspard Brullé in 1833 [▽]. As with other species of the genus Neoplagionotus, N. scalaris larvae develop in the stems and roots of the mallows (Malva silvestris and Lavatera stenopetala) [✧][❖]. Adults, active from late April to June, are diurnal and anthophilous.

The mounted beetles were collected in Arachova Arachova (Αράχοβα) village environs (N38°29′36″ E22°32′56″; 1080-1200 m a.s.l., Distomo-Arachova-Antikyra municipality, Boeotia, Central Greece region, Greece) on May 23-25, 2018. The depicted living specimen was photographed in Panagitsa (Παναγίτσα) village environs (Tripoli municipality, Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece) on May 26, 2021.Collected by David Navrátil and Daniel Rydzi
