Mesosa nebulosa is a rather common species in Europe. It develops in dead and rather rotten twigs and branches of various deciduous trees, especially in hornbeam
(Carpinus betulus), beech (Fagus sylvatica), oak (Quercus spp.) and lime (Tilia spp.). Adults hatch in the autumn and overwinter in the pupal cells.
Adult beetles occur in nature from spring to the end of summer, mainly on drying branches on trees, piles of fallen or cut branches and logs [❖].

The depicted living beetles were collected in Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area and Prague-Zbraslav (Central Bohemia, Czechia).
The mounted specimen was collected in Rothenburg castle ruins environs (Steinthaleben, Kyffhäusergebirge Mts., Thuringia, Germany) in summer 1988.
