Lepturobosca virens, a beautiful and widely distributed species of Eurasian coniferous forest belt, has been described from Europe as Leptura virens by Carl Linné in 1758. Larvae of this in Central and West Europe predominantly submontane and montane species develop in develop in dead but relatively still compact wood of standing or lying trunks of conifers (Pinus, Picea, Abies). The larvae bore a wider galleries in sapwood up to about 5 cm deep, clogged with frass. Pupation in spring and early summer in wood, life cycle two and more years. The adults, active from June to September, are diurnal and anthophilous (e.g. Apiaceae, Aruncus, Filipendula) [❖][▽].

The depicted living beetles were collected on flowers (Apiaceae) in Rohrmoos-Untertal environs (Schladming, Liezen district, Styria, Austria) on June 4, 2017. The mounted specimen was collected in Pavlovka Reservoir environs (Maginsk, Karaidelsky district, Bashkortostan, Volga federal district, Russia) in summer 1987.
