Leptorhabdium illyricum, a rare species occuring in Balcan peninsula, has been described from Albania as Xylosteus illyricus by Gustav Kraatz in 1871 [▽].
L. illyricum host tree and biology of the preimaginal stages were unknown for a long time, but Pierpaolo Rapuzzi and Gianfranco Sama reported its larval development in the long dead wood of Fagus sylvatica in the presence of fungi and molds (from North Macedonia and Croatia) in 2012 [✧].

Body length:10 - 16 mm
Life cycle:2 - 3 years
Adults in:May - June
Host plant:Fagus sylvatica (but preobably polyphagous in deciduous trees)
Distribution:Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, North Macedonia, Slovenia

The depicted living specimen was photographed in Galičica National park (Ohrid, North Macedonia) in May 2013.
