Judolia dentatofasciata, a North-Eastern Palaearctic taxon occuring in Russia, China, Japan, Korea, and Mongolia, has been described from "Dauria" (Transbaikalia) as Grammoptera dentatofasciata by Carl Gustav Mannerheim in 1852 [▽]. J. dentatofasciata larvae develop in the decaying roots of various conifers (Larix, Picea, Abies, Pinus, etc.) or rarely in roots of deciduous trees (Populus, Tilia). Females lay eggs at the base of the trunks on the exposed parts of the roots. Pupation after the second overwintering in wood above soil level in early summer. Life cycle 2 years, adults often visit flowers from June to August.
Body length: ♂♂ 8.0 - 12.0 mm / ♀♀ 9.5 - 15.0 mm Life cycle: 2 years Adults in: June - August Host plant: decaying roots of both deciduous and coniferous trees (preferred) Distribution: Russia (Northern European territory, Siberia, Far East), China, Japan, Korea, Mongolia
The mounted male beetle was collected by Maxim Smirnov in Komsomolsk Nature Reserve (Комсомольский государственный природный заповедник; Khabarovsk Krai, Far Eastern federal district, Russia) on June18, 1991. The depicted female beetles were collected in Zaisan (Зайсан) Memorial environs (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia) on July 17, 2018.
