Isotomus speciosus jarmilae, a rare endemic subspecies to Crete, has been described from Omalos village environs (Crete) as Isotomus jarmilae by Milan E. F. Sláma in 1982 [❖]. However, according to Pierpaolo Rapuzzi and Gianfranco Sama it is only a subspecies of Isotomus speciosus. Larvae of this beautiful beetle develop in dead branches and stems of Kermes oak (Quercus coccifera).

Body length:12 - 23 mm
Life cycle:2 - 4 years
Adults in:June - July
Host plant:Kermes oak (Quercus coccifera)
Distribution:an endemic subspecies to Crete


Collected by Fotis Samaritakis in Omalos (Ομαλός) village environs (Chania region, Crete).
