Isotomus speciosus barbarae, an endemite to Italy (12 known localities), is endangered taxon with a small area of occupancy (less than 2 000 km²). I. speciosus barbarae was originally described by Gianfranco Sama as I. barbarae [✧], but it was downgraded to the subspecies rank in 2018 [▽]. Larvae of this remarkable longhorn beetle develop in dead wood of deciduous trees (Ostrya carpinifolia, Carpinus orientalis) in woodlands in the hills and sub-montane regions of the Appenine ridge. Recently was discovered also in Latium (Central Italy; ❖).

The depicted beetles were reared from larvae found in a dead branch of Fagus orientalis in San Gregorio (Lazio, Rome province, Central Italy).Collected by P.Jelínek
