Gaurotes virginea aemula, a subspecies occuring in Russia (from Ural to Pacific coast), North China, and North Mongolia, has been described from Siberia as Pachyta aemula
by Carl Gustav Mannerheim in 1852 [▽]. The larvae of G. virginea aemula develop under the bark of dead coniferous trees (Picea, Abies, Pinus, Larix).
Before the second winter, the larvae leave the host tree and ovewintering in the pupal cell created in soil. Pupation in the following spring, life cycle 2 years.
Adults, active from May to August, are diurnal and anthophilous [✧].
