Eustrangalis distenioides, a striking Cerambycid species occuring in the Kuril Islands (Kunashir) and Japan, has been described from Japan (Honshu) by Henry Walter Bates in 1884 [▽].
E. distenioides larvae develop in the dead, but still solid wood of deciduous trees. In Kunashir, only Kalopanax septemlobus
is the host tree, but the species is not monophagous, as it is reported from Japan from other Araliaceae, and also from maples (Acer spp.). Larvae pupate in late summer and young beetles overwinter, life-cycle
two or three years. Adults, active from June to August, are diurnal and anthophilous [❖][✧].
