Dorcadion ribbei, a species occuring in Kazakhstan and North-West China (Xinjiang), has been described from Tarbagatay Range (Kazakhstan) by Gustav Kraatz in 1878 [✯]. Its subspecies D. ribbei bobrovi, endemic to Kazakhstan and occuring exclusively on the northern slopes of Manrak and Saur Mountain ranges in the border zone with China, has been described by Mikhail L. Danilevsky in 2001 [❖]. Typical habitats of D. ribbei bobrovi are clay deserts and semi-deserts with sparse grass vegetation. Larvae feed on roots of various grass species (Poaceae). Adults feed on above-ground parts of the same plant species. In warm sunny weather, males are actively moving in search of virgin females. Females are less active and usually staying under plants [✧].
