Dorcadion eurygyne, a species distributed in Russian West Siberia and East Kazakhstan, has been described from Ulba village environs (East Kazakhstan) by Georgy Leonidovitsch Suvorov in 1911 [✮]. The taxonomy of this species, which is very close to Dorcadion (Politodorcadion) politum politum Dalman, 1823, was described in detail by Mikhail L. Danilevsky in 2007 [❖]. The nominotypical subspecies occurs in two separate regions in Eastern Kazakhstan - north of Lake Zaysan and to the south of the Tarbagatay Mountains. Its range in the latter area is limited only to southern foothills of the Kalbinsky Ridge [❖]. D. eurygyne eurygyne, which occurs in submontane clay semi-deserts with sparse grass vegetation (at an altitude of approx. 500 m a.s.l.), develop on roots of various grass species (Poaceae). Adults feed on above-ground parts of the same host plants [✧][✩].

The depicted mounted male beetle was collected in Bozanbai (Бозанбай) village environs (N49°35′ E82°30′; 400 m a.s.l., Sibinka river valley, Ulan district, East Kazakhstan region, Kazakhstan) on May 26, 2002. The living specimen was collected in East Kazakhstan on May 7, 2019.
