Dorcadion (Cribridorcadion) equestre was described from Southern Russia as Cerambyx equestis by Erich Laxmann in 1770 [❖]. Its wide distributed subspecies D. equestre reclinatum, known from Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, North Macedonia, Turkey, and Serbia & Montenegro, has been described from "Balkan" as Dorcadion equestre var. reclinatum by Gustav Kraatz in 1892 [✧]. D. equestre reclinatum differs from the nominotypical subspecies occuring in Russia and Ukraine, among others and above all by the absence of a dorsal rib in the basal part of the elytra [▽].

The mounted beetles were collected in Malo Cersko (Мало Церско) village environs (Kičevo Municipality, North Macedonia) in May 9, 2009. The depicted living beetle was collected in Northern Greece.Collected by I.Boščík and P.Jelínek
