Clytus (Sphegoclytus) stepanovi, a rare Caucasian member of Clytini tribe, has been described from Krasnodar environs (Russia) as Clytus vesparum stepanovi by Mikhail Leontievich Danilevsky and Alexander Ivanovich Miroshnikov in 1985 [✧]. To a species rank it was elevated by A. I. Miroshnikov in 1990 [❖], and moved to a newly estabilished genus (currently subgenus) Sphegoclytus by Gianfranco Sama in 2005 [✝]. Larvae of C. stepanovi develop in dying or dead branches and stems of deciduous trees, life-cycle at least 2 years. Adults, active in May and June, can be found on blossoming shrubs [✧].
