Chlorophorus simillimus, a North-East Asian species occuring in Russian Far East, NE China, Japan, Korea, and Mongolia has been described from Amur River Valley as
Clytus sexmaculatus by Victor Ivanovitsch Motschulsky in 1859 [▽]. However, due to preooccupation, the valid name of this species is Chlorophorus simillimus proposed
by Gustav Kraatz in 1879 [✧]. Larvae of this species develop in branches and trunks of dying or freshly dead deciduous trees, creating longitudinal meandering galleries
in the sapwood compactly filled with fine frass. After the second overwintering larvae create pupal cells in sapwood with premade exit corridors up to bark filled by frass. Pupation
in May-June, life-cycle 2 years. Adults, active from June to August, are diurnal and anthophilous (can be found on Spiraea, Asteraceae, Apiaceae...) [❖].
Body length: | 9 - 17 mm |
Life cycle: | 2 years |
Adults in: | June - August |
Host plant: | polyphagous in deciduous trees (Crataegus, Acer, Juglans, Prunus, Pyrus, Rosa, etc.) |
