Calchaenesthes oblongomaculata, a beautiful and relatively rare East-Mediterranean species, has been described from Greece as Callidium oblongo-maculatum by Félix Edouard Guérin-Méneville in 1844 [▽]. Larva ldevelopment in living twigs of the kermes oak (Quercus coccifera) and probably also other Quercus species.
Body length: 8 - 15 mm Life cycle: 2 - 3 years Adults in: May - June Host plant: oaks (Quercus spp.) Distribution: Cyprus, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Jordan, Turkey
The depicted beetles were collected on Kermes oak (Quercus coccifera) in Katafigio Agrias Zois Kampos (Καταφύγιο Άγριας Ζωής Κάμπος) park (Karyes environs, Sparta municipality, Laconia, Peloponnese, Greece) on May 28, 2021 / May 4, 2023.Collected by Daniel Rydzi
