Acanthocinus guttatus, an East-Palaearctic species occuring in Russian Far East, China, Japan and Korean peninsula, has been described from Japan (Hyōgo prefecture) as Leiopus guttatus by Henry Walter Bates in 1873 [▽]. This species was included in the genus Acanthocinus and in newly estabilished subgenus Acanthobatesianus by Henrik Wallin, Torstein Kvamme and Meiying Lin in 2012 [✱].

The depicted female beetles were collected in: A (8.5 mm) - the right side of the Severyanka (Северянка) river valley (N44°20′18″ E146°00′42″; 20-40 m a.s.l.) on July 28, 2013; B (8.5 mm) - in the nameless creek valley 1 km S of abandoned settlement Zastava Dokuchayeva (Застава Докучаева) (N44°30′13″ E146°09′27″; 100 m a.s.l.) on August 5, 2013. Both localities are located in the Kurils Nature Reserve (Kunashir/Кунаши́р island, Kuril Islands, Yuzhno-Kurilsky district, Sakhalin region, Russia).Collected by Kirill V. Makarov
